Lin's Story
I was living in a group situation that had deteriorated, and I needed a place to live for cheap, fast. Our homes on Chinquapin Parkway used to be very inexpensive, as I knew from some friends who live on the block. They told me about this house for sale, and when I visited it, I decided to buy it. I even took down the “For Sale” sign the first time I looked at it, though the purchase process took several months. Every time I came by to see the house, I noticed that the ivy was trimmed and the grass was mowed. The house, which was vacant, was owned by a company in California. Their local realtor told me that no one was doing the work for this company. I later learned that a neighbor was maintaining the property. He said while he was taking care of his own yard, he did this one to help maintain the beauty of the community. After I moved in, another neighbor helped to clean up the leaves and mulch that had accumulated in the front curb gutter, and she gave me a collapsible rake as a housewarming gift. She said since our houses are small, the rake wouldn’t take up much space. I thought it was very sweet of her to do something so thoughtful, to spend her own money, and to reach out to me in that way. I realized that with neighbors like this, Architect’s Row was definitely the right choice for me!
